Week 8 Signs of Crisis in a Gilded Age

Whenever I learn or hear about revolutions, and people actually putting their lives at risk for what they believe is right, I am always impressed by that. I think that in order for people living in a country to revolt against the government, bosses, whoever is oppressing them is extremely brave. It also makes you […]

Week 7 – The export Boom as Modernity

This week brought about an interesting aspect of modernity that I had never really thought about previously. I think most people would immediately think of modernity and the modernization of society as a primarily positive aspect of humanity, in the sense that we have moved forward and continued to push the boundaries of what is […]

Week 7

Before I did this week’s reading, I didn’t think that modernity had different degrees and components to it. But I could think of a few examples where clever and innovative dictators had economic advantages but didn’t necessarily promote social advantages like liberty and freedom. So the fact that countries ruled by dictators could have economic growth … Continue reading Week 7

Week 7: “Modernizing” forces in Latin America

This weeks content focused on the idea of modernity Latin American. Modernity in Latin America and a difficult concept that continues to be debated today. As such a broad idea, it seems to tie into many subjects that we have covered so far in this course. It can be thought of in the context of […]
