The Never Ending Voyage

Posted by: feedwordpress

Although I have been liking the course so far, I believe that this reading has rather put me a bit off the course. The reading seemed interesting at first but soon grew monotonous. Though I understand the need for Columbus to document each and every little thing about the voyage, I was bored by the minute… read full post >>

Week 2- Meeting of 2 Worlds

Posted by: feedwordpress

The Journey of Christopher Columbus offers insight that have filled important gaps in my knowledge of his experiences. One of the most interesting aspects of his trip was the main reason why he went in the first place, religion. In addition to claiming new land for his King and Queen, his religion played an extremely … read full post >>

The Voyage of Columbus

Posted by: feedwordpress

When reading Christopher Columbus’ journal documenting his first voyage of discovery, I found myself thinking: “If I was reading this in the 15th century, I would think this was all fiction”. Columbus starts documenting his journey aboard the Santa María the 3rd of August, 1492 after crossing the bar of Saltés and setting a course […] read full post >>

Columbus – The Meeting of Two Worlds

Posted by: feedwordpress

The Voyage of Christopher Columbus offset my expectations in many ways. His logs of the journey he thought was to The Indies seemed to paint his destination in a positive light, but I believe there is a lot he left out. I found it interesting that one of Columbus’ main goals was to spread Christianity […] read full post >>

Was it to calm the anxiety of their true distance from home? Also, reading through it was evident that Columbus was searching for validation to present the king and queen of Spain, for funding his expedition. However, he is taken back by the natural beauty of the landscape and people. I think it was in a desprit attempt...read more read full post >>

Week Two – Meeting of Two Worlds

Posted by: feedwordpress

The journal entries of Christopher Columbus were very interesting and insightful to me. My knowledge of Christopher Columbus’ voyage was incomplete and lacking in details that I learned by reading the journal. I did not realize how gold and religion had a big impact on the voyage and Christopher Columbus emphasizes in his journal how the… Continue reading Week Two – Meeting of Two Worlds read full post >>

Week Two: Two Worlds

Posted by: feedwordpress

It was very interesting to read about Columbus’ thoughts as he travels through the area and encounters native people. It was surprising to me that his first view of them was not necessarily negative. He comments that he believes they are intelligent and that he believes they could easily be converted to Christianity. He mentioned […] read full post >>

The Meeting of Two Worlds

Posted by: feedwordpress

Christopher Columbus’ journey, as described in his journal, was largely unexpected for me.  Perhaps I simply didn’t know enough about Columbus, or I had been told more legend than history regarding his expedition; but as I was reading, I realized just how little I know about the true history of Christopher Columbus. First of all, […] read full post >>
